SIMSBURY YOUTH LACROSSE ASSOCIATION

BOY’S PROGRAM 2015

To all participants in the boy’s lacrosse program:

Welcome to the 2015 season!

The boys program is comprised of the following divisions:  Developmental (grades K to 2); Bantam (grades 3 and 4); Junior (grades 5 and 6); and Senior (grades 7 and 8).  All boys must play in the Division corresponding to their grade.  We do not permit playing up to another division.  Weather and field conditions permitting, our season will start on or about Monday, March 23.  There is a possibility that the start date may be moved up.  Please keep checking the website for the exact start date(s).

All participants must be registered with Simsbury Youth Lacrosse Association (SYL) and U.S. Lacrosse.  All participants must wear appropriate protective equipment, which must include a helmet, mouth guard, gloves, arm pads, shoulder pads (that cover the heart), and a protective cup.  All participants must supply their own stick.  Cleats are recommended.

Developmental (K-2nd grade)                  T/Th      5:30-7:00pm @ HJMS - First Practice TBA

All participants must be registered with Simsbury Youth Lacrosse Association (SYL) and U.S. Lacrosse.  All participants must wear appropriate protective equipment, which must include a helmet, mouth guard, gloves, arm pads, shoulder pads (that cover the heart), and a protective cup.  All participants must supply their own stick.  Cleats are recommended.

SYL encourages kids to play multiple sports.  We are tolerant of kids that want to play another spring sport, especially at the Developmental, Bantam and Junior Divisions.  As possible, our coaches will work with coaches of other sports to avoid conflicts.  As described below, with respect to our most competitive teams in the Senior Division, we do ask for more of a commitment.

The Developmental Division does not have tryouts and is instructional, playing only a limited number of modified games.  The Division will practice at Henry James Middle School (HJMS) School on Tuesday and Thursday, from 5:30 to 7.  The Director of the Division is Dom Lattanzi.  Dom will post or email further information.

The Bantam Division does not have tryouts, is mostly instructional, but does play games.  The boys will be divided into 3 equal teams.  The teams will practice at the same time at Henry James Middle School (HJMS) on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.  The Director of the Division is Bryan Bulger.  Bryan will post or email further information.

The Junior Division does have tryouts.  All teams are travel teams and will play competitive schedules in the Connecticut Valley Youth Lacrosse league (CVYL) (www.cvyl.org).  The Division will have 1 A team and 2 equal B teams.  The teams will practice and play home games at HJMS on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and on some Saturdays.  The Director of the Division is Paul Truting.  Paul will post or email further information.

The Senior Division does have tryouts.  All teams are travel and will play competitive schedules.  The Division will include 1 team (comprised of both 7th and 8th graders, referred to as our “CONNY U-15/A team”) registered in the Connecticut New York Lacrosse Association (CONNY)(www.connylacrosse.org).  The team will also compete in the CVYL as our A team.  The CONNY/A team will practice on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at HJMS.  The team will play games on Saturdays and Sundays.  This team is our most competitive team.  The CONNY/A team will generally travel more than our other teams and we ask that participants on those teams commit to lacrosse as their primary spring sport.  This does not, however, mean that a participant cannot play another spring sport.  The coaches of the CONNY/A team will work with coaches from other sports to try to avoid conflicts.  Conflicts will be handled by the CONNY/A coaches on a case by case basis.
The Division will additionally have three B teams.  These teams are registered in CVYL only.  The three CVYL teams will practice and play home games on Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings at HJMS.  They may also play games on Saturdays.  The Director of the Division is Alex Harris.  Alex will post or email further information as the season approaches.

Tryouts for the CONNY/A team is mandatory.  Information about tryouts will be posted on the SYL website.

We look forward to another great season.

SPRING REGISTRATION NOW OPEN

Dear Simsbury Youth Lacrosse Parents,

Although the 2015 spring lacrosse season seems like a long way off, our preparation for the season is in full swing and our registration system is open on Simslax.org.  I write to provide you with important information and to ask for your assistance as we continually strive to find new ways to improve the program.

As you might imagine, our Board members spend a tremendous amount of time and effort scheduling games/tournaments, identifying coaches, designing and ordering uniforms and coordinating our try-out processes and all of this needs to be established well in advance of your child(ren) taking the field for the first time in late March/early April.   This work is already underway so it is critical that we understand our player counts by division well before February 1st 2014.  February 1st is an important date as it is the deadline for all member towns of the Connecticut Valley Youth Lacrosse League (“CVYL”) to report the numbers of teams they are fielding in 2015.  Failure to accurately report team numbers by that date can result in a team not being recognized by the CVYL, which is what occurred two years ago in our boys’ Junior Division.  Timely registration should avoid this problem and allow us to plan accordingly, so we ask for you cooperation in that regard.

With that in mind, we have modified the registration process to ensure that we have ample time to effectively deliver upon the items referenced above.  Please note the following regarding the Spring 2015 Registration process for boys and girls:

The registration system is currently open and will close on January 31, 2015 for all returning players.   First year players are strongly encouraged to register by January 31st but will be allowed to register through March 15th

  • Our rate structure for the Boys’ and Girls’ 2015 programs are as follows:
  • Developmental (K-2): $125.00
  • Bantam (3&4): $150.00
  • Junior (5&6): $170.00
  • Senior (7&8): $170.00

  • Payment is expected at time of registration and the registration will be deleted if payment is not received with 24 hours.

  • Financial assistance is available for those who qualify.

  • Players who register after January 15th will be assessed a $50 late fee and may be placed on a waitlist.  If your child is placed on a waitlist, you will be notified during the registration process.  Late registration may negatively impact your son/daughters ability to try-out for a team in the Junior and Senior divisions.  Please note that a full refund will be provided if we’re unable to place your child on a team.
  • During the registration process, you will be asked to enter sizing information for your child’s uniform.  There will be a sizing chart to assist you in your selection.  For returning players, the sizing will be consistent with last year so that should help guide your decision.

Email reminders related to the registration deadline will be sent but we ask that you register as soon as possible.

We sincerely appreciate your continued commitment to Simsbury Youth Lacrosse.  We wish you and your family the very best during this Holiday Season and look forward to seeing you in the spring.

Regards,

Jeff Dempsey

President, Simsbury Youth Lacrosse
